Second Artist for Research Project
Petra Collins
For my second artist for the portraits project, I have chosen Petra Collins who is a photographer, filmmaker and artist, who I've been following the work of since I was around thirteen year's old from her collaborations with Tavi Gevinson who writes a blog called Rookie Mag which became worldwide known books. I have always been drawn to Petra's work as her photography has an innocence, femininity and nostalgic youthness to her photography which makes me love her work even more.

“If the Internet mimics real life, then there is no doubt that real life can mimic it.”
Petra's style is remembered by her soft tones, and mix between different mediums whilst always keeping those tones in her work. You can recognise her work by her gentle colour palettes, youthness and use of her available light during the time of the photograph within that moment but her main focuses are softness and using neon lights as an advantage to the feeling she wants to portray within that moment between her subjects which are mostly her friends, but as she's grown as an artist she's worked with Tyler The Creator, Selena Gomez, Gucci and other influencers and brands in the industry.
She also recently released a photography and poetry book with her long term friend Tavi called BABE.

Her work which was a collaboration with Pat Mcgraph's new collection called Phantom inspired my portrait project due to the fact she used the neon lights to make her subject look more vulnerable by the way she carried it out using her subject against the multiple neon lights.
