Imagining Reality - Documentary Progress and Research
For our documentary, we had to switch during the process of planning our original idea which was filming dog walkers in Farnham but sadly this didn't go to plan as we couldn't get filming permission for 6 of us in Farnham Park / Castle which meant that we needed to desperately switch two complete ideas and find a new cast for our documentary and we went with mine and Carrie's idea of behind the tattoos, and people whom have tattoos and why that culture and community is the way it is due to the community of that culture.
For our original idea, we planned to film a big group of local dog walkers in Farnham because the brief is to make it about communities outside and inside Farnham and the dog walkers we found through a Facebook and we had it organised to film the dog walkers on a Sunday because we managed to message the person whom organises the meetings but, the thing we made a mistake on was messaging the council on the same day without knowing it would take 10 days to get permission for six of us on crew filming on Farnham Park castle location.
For the greyhounds documentary, we were inspired by the Netflix documentary about dogs, and the stories of the owner's story of their dog and what they've experienced through having that dog.
I was inspired by GQ Magazine who films celebrities and creatives with tattoos on their Youtube and I-D's documentary of the illegal tattoo scene in Korea presented by the tattoo artist based in London called Grace Neutral.
We began shooting last week of people with tattoos, and what it means to them and to also give us a "Tattoo Tour" of the art on their bodies in the studio that we booked from 5-8pm. We're also going to shoot Harri who does stick and poke tattoos because I find that traditional tattooing is interesting in the tattoo culture itself and will be an unique perspective on people who don't know about tattoos.
For this documentary, I decided I would have to end up getting a tattoo in a traditional method as I enjoy the atmosphere around stick and poke tattoos compared to professional atmospheres which are very similar but very different to having a needle and ink into your body at someone's house. Although I would've loved to get a professional tattoo done to cover one of my bad stick and pokes at where we were going to interview an artist whom did one of my tattoos, but the parlour wasn't having it on that day and we panicked and decided to interview people with tattoos instead.
Here is our inspirations behind our documentary which we were inspired by how it was shot, the lighting and how the subject (the people with tattoos) are sat whilst on set:
Our presentation for our final project:
Powerpoint was done by Katie Elmore, but everyone contributed and helped to create it.
