Experimental Video Idea

For m experimental video, I had this random out of the blue idea that was kind of in inspiration to Trainspotting and Black Mirror but also relating to how I'm trying to express how I'm feeling currently with the use of time, and what it means.

The general idea is that I have a female character in a minimal location surrounded by many clocks because she's sick of the repetition in daily life and having to always check the time when she feels like there are more important things to think or worry about in her life but she is still constantly checking the time just like we all do and the message behind it is that sometimes we take time for granted, and we don't use it to our advantage when we need it and have it in the back of our heads.

For this idea, I'm going to use Evie as my character representation and I'm also going to hunt charity shops and see how many standing alarm clocks I can find but, hopefully that will go successfully and I can hopefully find more than five alarm clocks to use for my experimental film. I was heavily inspired by Black Mirror and Trainspotting for two different reasons, I wanted to include the element of 'having too much time' whilst the character is really distracted by the fact she has time whilst figuring herself and her life out. I wanted to use that as the sense of how we're constantly distracted by technology and how it can distract us mentally and still manage to take over our lives whilst we are not in control of it. The inspiration from Trainspotting inspired me by how Danny Boyle managed to give the audience an awareness of how isolated the characters are within themselves and I want to portray that in this film.

The character is going to have long black hair and blue shadow on inspired by old pop culture of David Bowie which also gives the character more surrealness to her character because she is questioning herself whilst also questioning the world that she is in which is full of chaos and madness. The location is going to be in my kitchen as I feel like the surreal element can be shown very well through the use of the kitchen.

In the film the female character is sitting in the kitchen whilst 'life' is happening around her, and her life is also happening too but at a different time between the things happening in the background. She is surrounded by many alarm clocks due to her obsessive compulsive disorder and wanting to keep track of how fast time is going whilst life around her is happening and her also not being aware of what's happening in her life due to the compulsiveness of focusing too much on time. Today I also went looking round charity shops in slight hope of finding old clocks but I found some in Argos instead and looked like a mad lady buying a bunch of clocks.

I'm going to film this whenever I can with Evie and the other actor, it is also going to feature my flatmates walking in the background as if a party is happening whilst her life is happening in the same time which will be shown through her lighting a cigarette, making out and putting lipstick on.

For this project, there will be two versions of the film due to me wanting to express the concept in the character's perspective in different settings but, the same scenario.
