Maps & Networks Project Research // Part 2
Researching the brain
Trials:
More research:
The Mind: Explained - Netflix
Whilst having free time after group work to do with the studio shoots, I've been watching the mind explained on Netflix to get a better understanding of how our brain functions and reacts to different things in life. The episodes I felt connected with my project were based on anxiety, memory, and beauty.
This documentary was still somewhat related to the brain, but more of what we eat interact with our brain and how it affects us. I still found this somewhat relevant because it was about what we ate making an impact on how our brain reacts to experiences and how we manage life.
This documentary went more into how the plant-based diet helps our brain function, but it was still a part of my research.
What I'm planning to do next:
After my group has finished with our studio shoot, I'm going to start filming my housemate Amanda who is an actress and start directing my character I've developed based on the research I've built from watching The Mind: Explained. I will be filming my character during the first two weeks of December before we break for the Christmas holidays so it gives me enough time to edit the different segments of emotions.
How my idea has changed since carrying more research
My idea has changed in ways of how I'm going to present my installation rather than my whole entire idea, the only thing that I changed was making it less complicated for me to display my work and make it more immersive and interactive for my audience which makes creating the idea smoother and calmer rather than putting too much work into something that can be easily presented.

To test how I'm going to present my work at The Berge House, I made a website as it was suggested by people from UCA Freshers as I was finding the process of making my film be presented in a way of being interactive. I looked into actually making a game myself, but since I'm not studying games I would have to teach myself from the very start and that would be too much pressure for this simple project. So, instead, I went with making an interactive website that plays the film once people click on different parts of the brain as that would mean at The Berge House I could get a laptop or iPad with headphones or a TV screen connected to a laptop via an HDMI cable that people can choose.
Creating interactive brain art for my brain project website:
Since my idea has progressed into being presented on a website that the audience can interact and view the artwork, I decided to create an artwork of the brain of the two halves of the brain.
The other half being the network where information such as logic etc are being processed and the other half being the creative part of the brain where we process memories, emotions and how we respond to things we see or feel in our lives which is the half that my audience interact with.
I created the brain with half being colorful, and the other half being the network. This will then be displayed as a film of the brain coming to life until it's the final form where people get to choose which parts of the brain that lead to the other film being the different emotions that people pick.
