Maps & Networks Part 3- Preparing for The Final Installation

CYE GAME

In this post will be behind the scenes of my editing, and preparing my installation project and working on my game website interface. I've currently edited all the emotion networks for the game interface for my website on Final Cut Pro X and I'm now preparing to get a stand/easel set up for how I'm going to present it on an iPad provided by me. This will show the process of creating different networks on the interface connected to Wix and how I connected the networks I designed to the different emotions people have the choice of picking.

STILLS OF THE INTERFACE ONLINE:

Here is what I've done so far over filming, editing and preparing over these last months:

These helped me during filming as I filmed eight separate videos in order to mix them up and confuse the audience with what emotion they picked. This allowed me to mix up a stand-alone emotion that I felt stands alone.

Creating an interactive game using WIX:

Creating an interactive game using an interface that wasn't meant for creating games was pretty difficult and stressful because it all depended on the networks and how the meaning of the game is meant to be and the way it flows like a "video game" however this wasn't using a game interface software so I found this to be more time consuming because of not knowing how to code or make my game, so I did it the old way which took more time as a whole entire process of the concept of the game and what the game means. This meant making sure my networks were perfect and my dead ends lead to dead ends and all the buttons linked with emotions connected as networks like a video game. In the future, I wish I could make my own game based on human behavior and things that are relevant. I also created this interface whilst writing my essay which was relevant to what I was creating which is an interactive immersive online game.

The website is now live:

For displaying this I've stuck and connected my iPad in a frame which will be displayed on a stand, which allows people to think about the philosophy of "not touching the art" and allowing my audience to be able to play the game on the frame. Instead of my first initial idea of it being hung up, I thought it being chained and on a stand so, it means my audience can move it and have their own time playing the game without it being overly controlled with the sense of security too.

I designed it in a frame as people will still be able to question the work, and why a video game is still interactive in a frame.

In reflection overall, my idea has changed a lot since the beginning as at first I wanted to create a laser cut out of a brain that still featured the use of some type of interactive connection to the brain (metaphorically and in terms of connecting) but I decided at the end that would make my work more complex and complicated when it didn't need to be. So, I changed my idea during my research period of changing it to an interface that wasn't particularly a gaming interface where you can modify and create your own code for a game as that would have made it more complicated so I went with making a website that had the same elements as a game if it was online as I am already aware of HTML in terms of building websites but I wanted to save time in order to be able to show it easier than spending time making my own game.

After my presentation:

After my presentation, I realized my work was more of an interactive website inspired by retro games within the same concept as technically it's not a game but, it interacts with the characters like a game. I also realized my interface performs better on a computer as it makes it faster for the audience to interact with the character they are controlling rather than my iPad which is extremely slow, and not as reliable as a laptop. However, I am very proud of myself for taking myself out of my comfort zone as I cannot make video games, but I can create something inspired and influenced by the idea of how you feel whilst playing a video game.

For the Foyer and Berge House, I am going to try and get a laptop booked for the entire exhibition as it runs better in that format, however, this project makes me want to study how to actually create a video game as my love for them linked with movies is pretty big.

The meaning of my project

The meaning of this project was to allow the audience to feel the control of being able to make a female character be controlled by the audience using emotions. This almost gives the audience the effect of the female character almost being a cam girl due to her confidence which makes the audience think more about how they are controlling the female character that they cant choose to not choose.
