Portraits Project Don’t Suffocate Me With My Flowers The concept: For this portrait I was inspired by the way the photographers I studied showed vulnerability, sexuality and innocence so, I took those and wanted to capture vulnerability of my subject through using real flowers and the neon lights as a metaphor of the subject being taken over by her own vulnerability within that space. The flowers represent sexuality and discovery whilst she is still making herself vulnerable. Test Shots: The rough takes: The photograph in the beginning was inspired by Rene Magritte's painting of the lover's but, it didn't work out with my concept and what I wanted to capture although I want to try something in ode to Rene. (The Lovers 1, 1928 by Rene Magritte) The one's I would've picked but didn't: ^^ The photograph above was the photo that frustrated me the most du...

In this blog, it's a summary of everything that has been inspiring me throughout the month creatively, and in other ways too. This goes into music, art, influencers and general media I've been consuming that has impacted me in some form. Notes On A Nervous Planet by Matt Haig: After reading this book, my perspective on technology started changing although I was already questioning the advantages and disadvantages of our noisy planet with what we've destroyed and created within it to make it nosier. As an avid reader of Matt Haig's books, this one is by far my favourite of his by his because of how far he went into detail on the science behind our addiction and attachment in general, and why it's affecting us more than it did in the past because overly hypersensitiveness that we've built into depending on technology and social media. The book was written so well in a sense that you can learn, whilst relating to the fact about the noisy world we ...

So, recently I watched the film directed by Crystal Moselle called "The Skate Kitchen" whom is about real skateboarders who I've been following for three years since I got into the skateboarding culture, and as a hobby. Since, I've been following Rachelle and the girls behind the skate kitchen it was interesting knowing that they got casted by Crystal on the subway in NYC. For the film, as a whole I feel like Crystal Moselle did a brilliant job on portraying the skateboarding culture, and how it feels to be a part of the community itself especially as a women in a very masculine "sport" which isn't a sport because skateboarding is skateboarding. The film was extremely cinematic, and shot beautifully in terms of how she wanted to portray the girls amongst the male skateboarders at the skatepark, and the struggles as being a women in general is shown through-out the film which was nice to see because the issues the main character had with femininity...

Petra Collins For my second artist for the portraits project, I have chosen Petra Collins who is a photographer, filmmaker and artist, who I've been following the work of since I was around thirteen year's old from her collaborations with Tavi Gevinson who writes a blog called Rookie Mag which became worldwide known books. I have always been drawn to Petra's work as her photography has an innocence, femininity and nostalgic youthness to her photography which makes me love her work even more. (Uprising and Oyster Mag, 2018) “If the Internet mimics real life, then there is no doubt that real life can mimic it.” Petra's style is remembered by her soft tones, and mix between different mediums whilst always keeping those tones in her work. You can recognise her work by her gentle colour palettes, youthness and use of her available light during the time of the photograph within that moment but her main focuses are softness and using neon lights as an...
